We say well done the management and panel for their dedication and commitment all year. • Senior League
Our Senior Men had a return to the County Final pairing as they played St Mary’s in Carrick last Sunday and after a very entertaining game came away with the points by virtue of their 2-13 to 1-12 winning margin. Check fixtures for next weekend’s game.
  • Ladies Crowned County Champions
The past weekend belongs to Kiltubrid ladies who had an excellent victory over Mohill last Saturday to win the Intermediate Championship. This game was worth every cent of the entry fee on the day as the final result swung to and fro over the hour. The girls had prepared well for this game following their disappointment last year in the final and were totally focussed on the job on hand. Winning the final was the start of their two day’s football as they had to play the Mayo Intermediate Champions from Swinford the next day. This tight fixture management caused both clubs to play the final knowing that within 24 hours either team would have to play the visiting Mayo team. The girls had to have a very subdued celebration following their County Final victory and it paid off as they stormed through this their first game in the Connacht Intermediate Championship with a comprehensive winning margin. They now play the Sligo champions, St Nathy’s next Sunday in Tubbercurry at 3pm. Congratulations to the girls, their management and everyone involved in their huge success over the weekend. Thanks to all supporters who took the time to come out in big numbers to encourage them on both days. Well done to Leitrim Gaels on their top class facilities for both days.
  • Thank You
The ladies wish to thank all premises in the parish for their after match refreshments over the weekend, these included The Mountain Tavern, Sheemore Inn, McKeon’s Kesh, Gerties and Cardiff’s Lakeside Tavern. To local taxi’s Michael and Noel Gilmartin for their transport, to Barry and Shane for their kind gesture after the match and a special word of thanks to Padraig and Christina Lynch for their kind sponsorship, all which is much appreciated.
  • Ladies Lotto
Ladies lotto will now take place next Sunday October 7th in Cardiff’s, Drumcong.
  • Kiltubrid Ladies GAA
  • Well what a weekend
Saturday evening our girls headed to Leitrim Village for the Pyramid Bookmakers Intermediate Championship Final against Mohill. Those who witnessed it were not disappointed with this fantastic game of football. Siobhain Kelly gave us the first score of the game with a point after 3 minutes and Mohill replied a minute later with their first point. That was how it went for the first half, score for score, with nothing between the teams at the interval. Our first goal came from a lovely move involving Aine Tighe, Regina and finally Lisa. Aoife also hit the net and points came from Sandra, Aine and Regina.

  • The second half started with two points from Mohill in quick succession until Kiltubrid found their form and gave us 25 minutes of great skill and team work to emerge victorious. Scores came from Lisa, Miranda, Aine Tighe, Sandra and Siobhain. It was a great occasion for Kiltubrid ladies as Regina lifted the Mary Kelly cup and Miranda received the ‘Player of the Match’ award. Well done girls! Celebrations had to be put on hold as we faced Swinford in the Connaugth Intermediate Club Championship on Sunday. If the girls were tired it didn’t show, as they played with the freshness of a team in their first championship outing. Annie got us of to a great start when she goaled after 8 minutes. We went on to dominate the half with other scores coming from Miranda, Lisa and Siobhan. In Defence the girls worked tirelessly and Emer made two mighty saves to leave it 4-8 to Swinford’s 1-2 at half time. The second half was a wonderful team effort. Subs Carl, Anya, Sinead Byrne and Niamh gave us an injection of energy for the final quarter and greatly helped our late surge leaving us convincing winners, all-be-it weary ones. Two wins in two days was a fantastic achievement, it’s a weekend we won’t forget for a while.
  • Thanks
A big Thank You to our loyal supporters who helped spur the girls to victory at the weekend. It was great to see the jerseys, flags and wigs get another day out. And they’re not for the back of the hot-press yet, we hope to see you all out this weekend as Kiltubrid take on Sligo’s St.Nathys in Tubbercurry at 3.00. Thanks too to John Russell who stepped in as physio Sunday
  • Sponsorship

  • Results
Our Seniors played Mohill in the league last Saturday in Kiltubrid. With both sides having their eyes sighted on the championship this game gave each camp an opportunity to experiment with some tactics that each side hopes will get them through the early stages and further. This was a good entertaining game ending with an equal share of points on a final scoreline of 1-10 each. Meanwhile our division 4 team travelled to Kinlough on Sunday morning, with the fixture more of a fulfilling exercise than any hope of a favourable result. With just fifteen players that included management togging out the game proved to be a very good contest until Melvin Gaels took control into the second half as they introduced subs to wear down our fifteen man brigade ending on a scoreline of 4-12 to 2-6. Well done to match referee Noel Flynn who officiated with fairness and common sense. Thanks to the Melvin Gaels club for their after match hospitality before we set out on our long trek home.

The Championship season kicks off this weekend in the county but for Kiltubrid, we receive a bye in the first round. The Feile committee is currently preparing an official boxed DVD set of the weekend including extensive coverage of the parade, RTE coverage (unedited), interviews and the finals. It will be available in the next couple of weeks at a price to be determined based on the production costs and the demand (€20 - €30). The committee also appointed two official Feile photographers who have taken over 1,000 photos between them. Instead of ordering a number of photos directly from the photographers, they will be producing a CD of the photos involving each club taken over the weekend. The photos are of a very high quality and resolution. It may take a number of weeks to prepare these CDs. If any of you are interested in purchasing either the DVD or any photos please contact Emer Horan within the next few days.

Meanwhile, all the girls need to pick themselves up again for this weekend as they play Mohill in the 9 aside final on Sunday at 1pm in Fenagh. A full attendance is required at training this week, no excuses.

  • Senior News
Our Seniors played neighbours Aughnasheelin in the Shield on Saturday at home in front of a larger than usual attendance for this competition. The visitors were the sharper team on the evening but failed to capitalise on their five point lead into the second half. A John Paul O Donoghue goal brought the sides closer than had been for a good part of the game and from then on Aughnasheelin were in trouble as Kiltubrid edged their way in front and stay there to the end winning on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-10. Well done lads on a great performance. Next up in the Shield Competition is Allen Gaels this Saturday evening in Drumshanbo at 6.30pm. Please support again as usual.

On Sunday our Div 4 team played Aughawillan in Kiltubrid. A good contest played in very hot sunshine with Kiltubrid proving to be a fitter outfit as the game progressed. Seniors were first in action last weekend as they entertained visiting Annaduff on Saturday evening. A well contested game entertained the handful of supporters with our lads leaving it rather late to stamp their upper hand with a three point winning margin 1-9 to 1-6. Again thanks to all players who continue to make sure we contest all our league games at this grade. Meanwhile our Division 4 team shared the points with Ballinaglera on Monday. It was a close game with scores at a premium due to poor shooting by both sides. Final score ended Kiltubrid 1-3 Ballinaglera 0-6.

  • Féile News
Preparations are well on the way within the club for the hosting of Féile from 29th June to 1st July. We are amalgamating with Fenagh for the weekend. Families of our under 14 players will host visiting players from London for the weekend. We thank all those families who have offered to-date to host players. However, we still need more families to offer their help. For this one and only occasion, it is important that every family do their bit for the weekend. The official launch of Féile Peil na nOg will take place in The Bush Hotel in Carrick on this Wednesday 23rd May commencing at 8.00pm sharp and finishing at 9.00pm.
  • Leitrim Senior Team
Best of luck to Shane Foley, Noel Gill and our County Senior team who are travelling to London this weekend for the first round of the Championship.
  • Leitrim Minors
Hard luck to our Minors who lost out narrowly to Sligo on Saturday last. Leitrim were the best team over the hour and will be very disappointed at not having converted some scoreable opportunities during the game. We say thanks to all involved who prepared so well for this game, the players and management. It was great to see players playing with such commitment and while once again lady luck eluded them it augers well for the future of Leitrim football. Congratulations to Emmett Mahon who starred at midfield for Leitrim and if the result had ended as it was going into injury time then Emmett would be a strong contender for the customary ‘Man of the Match’ award.
  • Fixtures/Results
The Shield Competition continued last Sunday with a home game against Bornacoola. Despite home advantage on an excellent playing surface it was the visitors who came out on top. An improved commitment to training is now required by all panel members.

Anyone who is interested in the training, please contact Finbarr on 086 8196535.
  • Well Done Aine
Well done to Aine Redican daughter of Tony and Mary Redican who took first place in the All Ireland Under 9 Dancing Reel which took place recently in Tallaght Basketball Arena, Dublin. This result from over fifty contestants is a huge achievement for this talented young lady. Aine is a member of the McCartin School of Dancing who are travelling to the USA for the St Patrick’s Day Parade next year. Well done Aine.

Aine Meehan, Jenny Mc Kiernan and Deirdre Meehan were the dutiful bridesmaids while Brian and Colin Mc Kiernan and Peter Gallagher were the Grooms Men. Lauren Meehan was the gorgeous flower girl and Diarmuid Mc Kiernan was the ‘paper boy’. • League
We played the last game of the league on Sunday against a very sporting and competitive Cloone team. Cloone started strong and clocked up a high score in the first half, we held them to two points in the second half but unfortunately the lead was too great for us. We were defeated well, but there were some excellent performances on the day. Emer Horan as always played excellent between the posts, Sinead Meehan and Claire Kelly excelled in the back line, Aoife Mc Weeney worked tirelessly in the middle of the field, and the two Tighe girl’s got a touch on everything in the forward line. Well done to all the girls on the panel who are showing up in great numbers for training. We now have the 9 a side competition to look forward.

02 April 2007

  • Sympathy
The club wishes to sympathise with the Petitt family, Dromard, Co Longford on the tragic death of T.P. Petitt in a traffic accident early Monday morning. T.P. was a well known figure here in Kiltubrid GAA circles as he accompanied our former senior team manager Sean Hagan to many of our games, indeed as an accomplished referee he officiated at many Kiltubrid challenge games over the years. He was a true gentleman and was well respected by all who had an association with him He had officiated at Sunday’s All Ireland Club football final replay between Crossmaglen Armagh and Crokes of Kerry in Portlaoise as an umpire. T.P.’s passing leaves a void in GAA circles in his parish of Dromard and indeed all over Leinster where he had occasion to officiate at GAA games. May his soul rest in peace.
  • County News
The Leitrim Seniors kept their league campaign on track with a great second half display that Roscommon couldn’t cope with in the Hyde last Sunday. Coming from six points down to win by three this display sets Leitrim up for a further crack at finishing possibly in second place behind Monaghan who are already promoted. This result also causes a further headache for the league fixtures as Leitrim will have to play London before the rest of this division proceeds with any further games. Well done to Noel and Shane who represented the club.
  • Juniors Division 4
The juniors had a good result last Saturday in Aughavas defeating the home side by 2 - 6 to 0 - 11.
  • Juniors Division 5
Travelling down to Killasnet to play St Osnetts was a bit much for our third string who had to leave North Leitrim pointless as the home side were deserving winners on a final score of 2 - 8 to 1 - 5. We thank the St Osnetts Club for their hospitality following the game.

  • League Game
We had our first outing this year against Mohill on Sunday last March 25th It was not the most successful of games but we can only improve from here on in. It was all level up to half time but second half fitness let us down and Mohill upped the speed and ran out easy winners on a score of 4 -11 to 2 – 05. Some positives were, we have an excellent new player Carol Keaney. We would like to welcome Carol to the Kiltubrid Ladies Club. It was also good to see Siobhan Carroll back from injury and in the Kiltubrid jersey again, Jenny Mc Kiernan also made her second debut for the club, we are glad to see all the new faces.
